Nestled in the Shier Mountain Range at over 500 meters above sea level, Huangling is located in the northeastern part of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. With a history spanning more than 500 years, the village was established during the mid-Ming Dynasty by the Cao family. It is renowned as the hometown of Cao Wenzhi and his son Cao Zhengrong—both of whom served as prime ministers during the Qing Dynasty. Huangling derives its name from the abundance of bamboo that once blanketed its hillsides. As a quintessential mountain village, its traditional residences are arranged in a terraced, fan-shaped layout centered around a natural spring, surrounded by ancient trees and winding streams.Famous for its vibrant “Autumn Drying” tradition—where colorful harvests are sun-dried on wooden racks outside each home—Huangling offers visitors a living canvas of rural Chinese life. The iconic “Sky Street,” a narrow, elevated stone path winding through the village like a jade ribbon, links beautifully preserved ancient dwellings. Shops line the street front while traditional workshops bustle just behind, creating a vivid, real-life echo of the classic painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival.”
