Zhuxu Hall

Zhuxu Hall, originally owned by Cao Yuangong, was built during the late Qing Dynasty. Cao Yuangong, who passed the imperial examination in the eighth year of the Chongzhen dynasty (1635), was appointed as the magistrate of Xingshan County, Hubei Province. The hall is a remarkable example of exquisite craftsmanship, featuring round carving, high relief, and openwork carving. The delicate and refined techniques used on the moon beams, beam brackets, arches, bird replacements, and eaves create a vibrant and lifelike stage-like scenery. The woodcarving theme draws inspiration from traditional dramas and folk aspirations, showcasing the owner’s elegance and wisdom as a lover of Confucianism.
